Last year of April 2016 my life changed in an instant moment which lead to some of the lowest lows but also the highest of highs. In order to cope with the events taking place I turned to the only thing I've ever really known to do, and that is to write. I spent about 4 months just writing and taking notes in no real effort of them becoming songs. As the time began to pass I enjoyed what was coming out so I decided to put an album together. My initial idea once these songs were complete was to get together with my ex and play them for her and explain the deeper meaning of where I was coming from. It wouldn't be coming from a place to get back together but more so just to reflect on the memories and life we shared together...something to enjoy together. As the time passed even more, and we began to drift apart even more, it became apparent that we wouldn't be getting back together so out of respect for what we once had I just decided to just let it be.
Eventually I decided I would release it publicly in hopes of touching the hearts of anyone who had ever been in the same situation. Up until this point I didn't have beats to any of these songs so they were just floating around on paper. I didn't really know what I would end up doing. A couple months later I had an opportunity to get some beats from Anthro & Eskupe of YoursTruly and started putting together full length songs. As everything started coming together and coming to an end I knew I needed one more beat to complete everything. I found myself in the studio with LHundo and he played me a sample that would become my song "Stages" which is just the finishing touch I needed. He was originally supposed to have a verse on the song, but once he started tracking it out, so much words just started pouring out so he just gave me the go ahead to keep it for myself.
After a couple months of recording, Ba5e and I would get together for the mixing and mastering process. Once the artwork was ready to be designed I spent the day with Mfdfme to shoot the rose photo and another couple days to put the rest of the details together and send it for print. 15 months later "This Too Shall Pass" was released. All in all I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome but my favorite part might be that there is still so much more to be said and so much lyrics that didn't make it on to the album. So I guess that'll be for another time.
Here's a fun story about the rose that's on the cover: Once my lady and I had decided to get our own place together and got the paperwork situated, we went to have lunch and fill out the applications at Buffalo Wild Wings. Our server congratulated us and wished us the best and mentioned he and his girlfriend had just moved in together. Fast forward a year later I'm at the grocery store to buy a rose for an album of my lady and I not being together anymore and I run into the same server buying flowers for his girl. He doesn't recognize me but we share some pleasantries anyway. I mention I'm just there to buy a single rose for a photo shoot but they didn't have any. Since he was buying a dozen he offered me to pick the best looking rose from his at no charge. I gave him some free stickers in return. We went through the checkout line together and once we got outside he mentioned he worked at Buffalo Wild Wings and to go in some time and he would take care of us. Oh the irony.
The album had actually been finished a couple months before the release date but July 9th holds a very special place with me from one of my other lifetimes in my late teens/early twenties that I decided to wait since I noticed that date was approaching. Theres always a deeper meaning to what I say and what I do...
